Kale - Dr Botanicals

Kale

Welcome to our new Apothecary School, letting you know some of the best-kept skincare secrets! Superfoods have been taking over the food industry over the last decade, but have you tried using such ‘super ingredients’ in your beauty regimes?

It’s no secret that we all love superfoods. Not just in our juices, salads and sandwiches, but here at Dr Botanicals, we love it in our superb skincare! The benefits of natural, healthy, nutritious and antioxidant properties can also apply to the largest organ in the body.

Kale, a proven nutritional powerhouse, is just one of those ingredients that are good for you all around. That’s why we made it the cornerstone of our best-selling Kale Superfood Nourishing Day Moisturiser!

What is so good about Kale?

Kale is rich in Vitamins C, E and K. Together, these vitamins contribute towards a more youthful and healthier visage. What do these vitamins do individually though?

Well,

  • Vitamin C is an antioxidant that’s great for brightening your skin’s appearance; it can aid in brightening complexion. (goodbye, dark spots!) and gets rid of fine lines and

  • Vitamin E, also an antioxidant, helps to moisturise and protect your skin from sun damage

  • And, Vitamin K aids in reducing the appearance of scars and dark spots (that purple pigmentation)

  • …But, it’s not just Vitamins loaded into Kale. It’s also a great source of iron, which can help speed up cell turnover and reduce acne scarring and blemishes.

You might also hear people throwing around the word ‘phytonutrient’ when it comes to talking about Kale.

…Wait, what are phytonutrients?

Phytonutrients are natural compounds produced by plants - think fruits, veggies, and grains - that they use to keep themselves healthy and protected from external stress. They’re good for your skin’s health, too.

Phytonutrients help to protect your skin from free radicals, heal your skin from sun damage, and keep your skin hydrated and firm. Because your skin is your outermost organ (your first line of defence) it takes a little more care than just what you put inside your body.

That all sounds good, what else is there?

Our Kale Moisturiser is also packed with a bunch of other natural, powerful ingredients so that you can make the most of your routine.

  • Cucumber Fruit Extract has high antioxidant activity and mineral silica which has been found to firm skin losing its elasticity.

  • Sweet Almond Oil is an emollient plant oil which harnesses the power of its fatty acids for skin-nourishing benefits. Skin loves it for its moisturising, smoothing and softening effects.

  • Shea Butter is used as an emollient due to its smoothing and moisturising effects on dry skin. It's rich in antioxidants and skin-replenishing fatty acids like stearic and linoleic.

  • And plenty of others….

Should I be using Kale in my routine?

All skin types will benefit from the incorporation of kale, but specifically dry, irritated, and sensitive skin will see the biggest improvements. Our gentle, yet powerful Kale Moisturiser is a great place to start and is packed with nutrients and antioxidants to help boost your skin!
